Subject: More Gàidhlig on American TV
Hallo a chàirdean,
It happened again!
I was channel-surfing on Sunday night. I'd stopped for about 30 seconds on
a channel that was showing the Disney film made in the early 1960's,
"The Three Lives of Thomasina", starring the two children from
"Mary Poppins", and a young Patrick McGoohan and Susan Hampshire. A film
I'd loved as a child when it first appeared, and which I have not seen
for many years.
I came upon the film at a point where the children were searching for
Thomasina, the cat, who was lost. The children were at an open marketplace
(the film takes place in the last century, in Scotland), and one of the
children asked a woman stall-owner if she'd seen a ginger cat anywhere
recently. The stall-owner was impatient with the child's questioning and
barked at him "a-mach às a-seo!" -- "out of here!" Woo hoo, a-rithist! I
had no idea that so much Gàidhlig was hidden on American TV! :)
Mar sin leibh,
Torstan
