SMO students receive Post Office excellence award

Sabhal Mòr Ostaig recently celebrated another successful year for its students at last week's Graduation Ceremony, with three students in particular receiving new awards for the first time. David MacLure, Dilys Powell and Helen Robertson were each presented with an engraved crystal trophy by the Post Office's Kathy Jack in recognition of their excellent academic achievements.

The Post Office Excellence Award in Technology was presented to David for his high level of achievement in Information Technology, in particular the design of world wide web pages. Dilys was recognised for Academic Achievement in the second year of the Gaelic & Related Studies degree programme, and Helen's Lifelong Learning Award was also in recognition of consistently high marks in her second subject studies.

Area Manager for Post Office Network, Kathy Jack said: "I am delighted to present these awards for excellence.

"The promotion of Scottish culture, of which the Gaelic language is a vital part, needs involvement to survive, in much the same way as support for Post Offices - whether they are rural or urban - is critical to their survival as an essential service at the heart of the community."

John Norman MacLeod, Head of Academic Studies at the College said: "Each student has been enthusiastic and dedicated and thoroughly deserves the Post Office Award for Excellence. I would also like to thank the Post Office in Scotland for supporting our graduation in this way."
