Sabhal
Mòr Ostaig welcomed some familiar faces back through its doors when
the College hosted its 30th Anniversary Student Reunion recently. The Gaelic
college was the venue for a weekend of activity which saw alumni from near
and far congregate to celebrate 30 years since the College began and 20 years
of full-time courses.
The celebrations got under way, when Iain MacDonald, the College's Musician-in-Residence,
launched his compilation CD, Ceòlmhor Ostaig, featuring past
and present students of Sabhal Mòr Ostaig. Iain's post is supported
by the Scottish Arts Council and he has taught many talented students during
his time at the College. The CD launch compromised a showcase concert and
cèilidh which included many of the artists featured on the CD such
as Christine Primrose, Julie Fowlis, Brian O hEadhra, Angus Peter Campbell
and Angus MacKenzie.
Iain
MacDonald speaking of the project said: "During my time as Musician-in-Residence
at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig I have had the pleasure of meeting, teaching and
playing with many fine musicians, singers, poets and others who have attended
and been part of the College over the last few years. I decided that some
of this talent should be heard and I hope that everyone will enjoy the selection
of music, song and poetry on the new CD."
Future projects to commemorate 30 years of Sabhal Mòr Ostaig include the publication of a book looking at the history of the College and in particular at the many people who contributed to the development of Sabhal Mòr Ostaig over the years.
Anyone wishing to purchase a copy of Ceòlmhor Ostaig should
phone the College on 01471 888 000. CDs cost £13.00 each.
