Sabhal
Mòr Ostaig was this week visited by the Consul General of Ireland,
Cliona Manahan during her tour of the Isle of Skye. The Consul General met
with the College Director, Prof Norman Gillies and colleagues where she was
able to gain an insight into the work of the College. In visiting the Isle
of Skye, she was aiming to gain a better understanding of the island’s
cultural position and activity through meeting with and speaking to local
people of all ages and backgrounds.
As well as Sabhal Mòr Ostaig in the south of Skye, the Consul General
visited a variety of places during the three day visit including Dunvegan
Castle, Minginish, the Colbost Croft Museum and Portree where she was met
and entertained by local traditional musicians. Following the trip she commented:
“I had a constructive and interesting first visit to the College and
am looking forward to close working relations with Sabhal Mòr Ostaig
during the course of my posting in Scotland. Throughout the visit to Skye;
I have been overwhelmed by the beauty of the island, and by the warmth of
the people that I met.”
