Lasswade High Visit Sabhal Mòr

Lasswade

Lasswade High School from Edinburgh visited Sabhal Mòr Ostaig UHI this month to learn more about the culture and language of the Highlands. With no previous knowledge of Gaelic, as there was no Gaelic Department at their school, they undertook Gaelic classes every morning at Sabhal Mòr. They then spent the afternoons exploring the Island and learning about the diverse local and Highland culture.

The pupils received a variation of activities including step dancing classes, a singing class with Christine Primrose and a session with John Purser, ensuring they received a good taste of Gaelic culture, language and music.

The Edinburgh based teenagers also had the opportunity to meet with local teenagers from both Portree and Plockton High School at a ceilidh organised by the college. Rosemary Ward, Education Officer at Bòrd na Gàidhlig was also present to welcome those present.

It was their teacher, James Forbes who organised the project and wanted to make his pupils aware of the rich culture in Scotland. The project received funding from Awards for All and Bòrd na Gàidhlig.
