SABHAL MÒR OSTAIG ANNUAL TELEVISED LECTURE 2007

The 14th in the series of prestigious Sabhal Mòr Ostaig Televised Lectures will this year be delivered by the First Minister, Alex Salmond, MP,MSP.
The lecture, sponsored by STV, has come to be recognised as a major event on the Scottish calendar and reflects Sabhal Mòr Ostaig’s central position as the National Centre for the development of the Gaelic language and culture.

This year’s lecture takes place on the 19th of Dec in St Cecelia’s Hall, Edinburgh and will be broadcast nationally by STV at 11.00pm the following evening.

The First Minister follows a long line of distinguished Lecturers which, in the past, has included former First Ministers, the late Donald Dewar MP, MSP and Jack McConnell MSP, along with past Irish President Mary Robinson, Prime Minister Gordon Brown MP, Irish Minister for the Gaidhealtachd Eamon O’Cuiv and many other key figures from Scottish public life, including the eminent author and historian, Dr James Hunter, who, in his inaugural lecture paid tribute to the central role which SMO has occupied in the wider process of the regeneration of the community, the language and the culture.
The previous lecture was given by leading academic, Aberdeen University Principal and Vice Chancellor, Professor Duncan Rice.

The lecture is hosted by the University of Edinburgh and co-sponsored by Morrison Construction.
